PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed junior Magnis Resources was one step closer to ticking all the boxes at its Nachu graphite project, after an environmental certificate was issued by the National Environment Management Council of Tanzania.

The certificate was essential to the granting of a mining licence for the project.

“The granting of the environmental certificate is a major milestone and brings us one step closer to receiving our mining licence. With each milestone that we hit, our world-class Nachu graphite project is further derisked and advances closer towards our end-goal of production,” said Magnis chairperson Frank Poullas.

The issue of the environmental certificate was based on the environmental-impact study.

In December 2014, Magnis signed an 80 000 t/y binding agreement with vertically integrated Sinoma for graphite offtake from the Tanzania operation, which was followed by the signing of a 100 000 t/y supply agreement with China-based Sinosteel in January.

In March, Magnis executed a memorandum of understanding with Sinoma for the finance, design and construction of the Nachu graphite project.
