Lynas has its licence renewed in Malaysia
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Malaysian Atomic Energy Licensing Board (AELB) has renewed the full operating stage licence for the Lynas advanced materials plant (Lamp).
Owner Lynas on Friday said the new licence would be valid until September 2019.
“We are delighted that our licence has been renewed reflecting our four years of safe operations at Lamp,” said Lynas CEO Amanda Lacaze.
“Lynas now has four years of operational data which show there has been no increase in the background radiation levels 1 km, 5 km, 10 km or 20 km from the plant. There has been no adverse impact on the nearby residents of Kuantan or the surrounding villages and all water discharges have been measured to be safe at all times for the community.”
The licence renewal followed a review process undertaken by the AELB and other independent regulatory bodies in Malaysia, all of which concluded that Lamp was in compliance with applicable regulations.
Lamp has the capacity to produce up to 22 000 t/y of separated rare earth oxide products, and was commissioned in late 2012.
