Cable manufacturer Alvern Cables, which will be in business for 50 years in 2017, will put on display its full range of products at this year’s Electra Mining Africa show, but will place a special focus on its three newest products, says sales director Stephen Liasides.

The latest products to join the Alvern Cable family are the AL-VK (RV-K) trailing cable, which is the only locally manufactured trailing cable with polyethylene cores; split neutral and earth concentric cables; and a concentric neutral cable, which comes with or without pilot cores for power supply to low-cost housing developments.

With renewable energy being a new buzz word, Liasides points out that Alvern Cables will soon be stocking the H1Z2Z2-K solar specification, which is set to replace the PV1-F specification.

Alvern Cables manufactures its products at its plants in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, where it uses virgin-grade materials to manufacture high-end, low-voltage electrical copper cables. These products are then distributed to clients from one of its branches in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, the Eastern Cape, the Western Cape or its export division.

“What makes Alvern Cables unique is that not only do we manufacture cables but we also have a successful distribution division that buys and stocks premium- quality cables and brands that cannot be manufactured by ourselves. Some examples of these products are Cat cables, RG cables, aluminium cables and braided and rubber cables. Our products are well priced and readily available, making us a one-stop cable shop,” comments Liasides.

Established in 1967 by three young entrepreneurs who worked in the railways industry and were struggling to find the cables they required for signalling purposes, Alvern Cables has grown into a cable manufacturer employing nearly 300 people. The group is a Level 2 broad-based black economic-empowerment contributor that is 51% black-owned and 47% black woman-owned.

“We strive wherever possible to support local business, thus, contributing to the improvement of our country,” Liasides concludes.
