TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Colorado-based Lake Victoria has received positive results from initial metallurgical studies conducted on tailings samples from the company's Singida gold project, in central Tanzania, it reported on Thursday.
The tailings samples assayed 4,65 g/t gold, and initial leaching tests resulted in an extraction of 86,6% of the gold.
But, while the preliminary leaching results are “very encouraging” president Roger Newall said the company still needs to determine what kind of gold recoveries could be achieved by gravity methods.
“The gravity test results will be received shortly. Once received, the optimal gold recovery system will be identified," Newall said.
Geological mapping, sampling and a detailed ground magnetic survey at Singida began in late July 2009, with the aim of defining ore-controlling structures and rock types associated with the gold occurrences.
Lake Victoria has 11 gold projects, consisting of 33 licences, and five uranium projects, on 13 licences, all in Tanzania.
The firm acquired Kilimanjaro Mining in a share-based deal last month.
