Konecranes, a world-leading manufacturer of cranes and hoists operating in 54 countries, provides productivity-enhancing lifting solutions.

Established in Finland in 1933, the company supplies a range of cranes and hoists for manufacturing and process industries, shipyards, ports and terminals, as well as service contracts, maintenance, load testing and spare parts for all makes of cranes and hoists.

Konecranes opened in South Africa in 2010 and is headquartered in Alrode, Johannesburg, with branches in Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Witbank, Klerksdorp, Richards Bay, Ngodwana and Rustenburg. The company also has a branch in Maputo, Mozambique.

Its factory has a total site area of 12 000 m2 and an undercover area of 3 600 m2.

Konecranes, which is listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange, has a yearly turnover of €2.1-billion and employs over 12 000 people globally, as its 636 branches. The company has over 450 000 cranes of all makes under service contracts, of which 25% are Konecranes, and 4 000 service technicians.

Konecranes South Africa, which employs 174 people, is in the process of implementing ISO 14001 and gaining ISO 9001 and 18001 accreditation.

Over the last 24 months, Konecranes’ inspection, service and load testing contracts base has increased by 215% and it has won several contracts in Southern Africa. It has an order book of R30-million.
