TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Unionised employees at Toronto-based Kinross Gold's La Coipa mine, in Chile, have begun a strike after negotiations on a collective agreement failed.

The strike affects output of around 300 gold-equivalent ounces a day, Kinross said in a statement on Wednesday evening.

“The company is seeking a resolution that is fair and equitable to employees and returns the mine to full production as soon as possible,” the firm said.

The La Coipa gold/silver mine is located in the Atacama Region of northern Chile, approximately 1 000 km north of Santiago.

The operation produced 226 293 gold-equivalent ounces last year.
