JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Multiproject gold company Hummingbird Resources has appointed Russell King as nonexecutive chairperson with immediate effect, replacing retired Ian Cockerill.

Cockerill would remain an adviser to Hummingbird and, in this capacity, had been appointed to the company's technical advisory committee, which was established to provide high-level technical guidance to the company to ensure that its projects were progressed in the most economically advantageous and efficient manner possible.

King was currently a senior independent nonexecutive director of temporary power generation company Aggreko, before which he served as chief strategy officer at Anglo American, where he was responsible for global strategy, business development, government relations, safety and sustainable development.

Between 2010 and 2013, he was a senior adviser to RBC Capital Markets on metals and mining and remained a nonexecutive director of multinational support service and construction company Interserve, digital mobile radio products manufacturer Sepura and precision instrumentation and controls supplier Spectris.

Hummingbird CEO Dan Betts said he was delighted to welcome King to the board.

“He is highly respected across the sector and his in-depth global industry experience will be an enormous asset to Hummingbird as we look to start construction at our Yanfolila project early next year,” he commented.
