Mike Kilbride has been appointed the independent nonexecutive chairperson of Africa- focused coal mining investment and production company Continental Coal.
Kilbride, 60, who has more than 35 years’ diversified mining experience, was previously executive director and COO of Exxaro Resources, South Africa’s largest empowered resource company. During his stint as Exxaro executive director, he was appointed chairperson of the boards of Sishen Iron Ore Company, Kumba, Exxaro Coal and Ticor South Africa.
“Continental Coal believes the appointment of such a well-respected and highly credentialed and experienced independent nonexecutive chairperson is a further step in the growth of our company,” says Continental Coal CEO Don Turvey.
“Kilbride’s [experience] . . . as chairperson of Exxaro’s coal business from 2001 to 2008, a period during which he oversaw production increase from 17-million tons a year to 47- million tons a year, is extremely important to Continental Coal as we now look to grow our business.”
