PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Mineral sands miner MZI Resources has reported increased production from its Keysbrook operation, in Western Australia, during the three months to December, with the project continuing to ramp up to full production.

The mine produced 15 636 t of mineral sands during the quarter, selling 10 061 t of product to generate revenues of A$7.5-million.

“The December quarter was one of special significance for MZI, during which the Keysbrook wet concentrator plant (WCP) achieved critical design performance milestones following the recently completed optimisation project,” said MZI interim MD Steve Ward.

“We also achieved significantly higher production in the quarter, with a number of records set.”

Ward noted that the WCP optimisation project had proven its worth, and MZI was now working to deliver above design performance on a sustainable basis, as part of the company’s continuous improvement approach.

MZI in November commissioned newly installed high performance spirals and improved screening equipment in the WCP in an effort to improve recovery of heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) and increase the HMC final grade to achieve design criteria for both parameters.

“The excellent improvement already achieved at Keysbrook should also flow through to the performance of the Picton mineral separation plant when our next processing campaign commences late in January,” Ward said.
