JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – A date has been set for judgment in the judicial review of the 2015 planning permission for underground mining at the Omagh gold mine, in Northern Ireland, Galantas Gold reported on Tuesday.

The Canadian company, which is dual listed on the TSX-V and Aim, said the Belfast High Court would deliver judgment on Friday.

The Department of Environment Northern Ireland (DOENI), which is now in the Department of Infrastructure, in July 2015 granted approval permitting Galantas to mine underground veins that had been worked in upper levels within an openpit.

A third party brought a judicial review in the Belfast High Court challenging the planning consent, alleging that DOENI had breached regulations.

Galantas has pressed ahead with underground development, despite the judicial review. In July, the company reported that it had accelerated underground development at the mine after agreeing to new blasting arrangements with local police, which has to provide anti-terrorism cover.
