Inspectorate Opens New Metals & Minerals Laboratory in Shanghai, China

Commodities testing and inspection organization continuessignificant investments in new testing facilities in China Inspectorate, a core part of the Bureau Veritas Commodities Division, celebrated the opening of its new state-of-the-art laboratory for the Metals & Minerals industry in Shanghai, China.

The new testing facility was opened by Bureau Veritas Group CEO, Didier Michaud-Daniel, during a grand opening ceremony attended by over 100 invited guests.

The ceremony marks the first independent Metals & Minerals laboratory in Shanghai dedicated to commercial settlement quality testing of a range of metal and mineral commodities, including: iron, nickel, chrome ores, ferroalloys & platinum group metals in catalysts.

The Shanghai laboratory adds to an already impressive network of offices and testing facilities in China and will house the latest equipment and techniques to service the growing regional demands of the metals and minerals industry. “With over 1,500 m2 (16,146 ft2) of laboratory space, and the installation of a full fire assay and wet laboratory facility, our new laboratory will provide services for Precious Metals, Non Ferrous Concentrates, Non-Ferrous Metals, Ferrous Ores & Concentrates and Ferro Alloys”, said Davy Yuan, China Country Manager.

“Our plan is to develop a global technical lab center in Shanghai, so that we can expand our services and network capabilities across all of China. This facility will also ensure that our services recognize local market customs which means that local clients will benefit by the very latest independent testing technology supporting the growing demand for quality in the region”,  said Sebastian Dannaud, Vice-President North Asia.

The new laboratory will be fully operational and ready to accept samples in October 2013.
