PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Multi commodity miner Independence Group on Tuesday reported that its Long and Jaguar operations, in Western Australia, have beaten production expectations for the full 2014 financial year.

Nickel production from the Long mine exceeded full-year expectations by about 8.4%, with the mine delivering 10 835 t of metal during the 12-months ended June, and 2 511 t during the quarter ended June.

At the Jaguar mine, copper production exceeded full-year expectations by 28.2%, with the mine producing 7 692 t of copper-in-concentrate in the full year, and 2 355 t during the quarter to June, while zinc production was 1.6% above expectations at 41 163 t during the full year and 12 611 t during the quarter.

Independence also has a stake in the recently started Tropicana gold joint venture, also in Western Australia, which produced 132 845 oz during the quarter ended June, up 10% on the previous quarter.

“This is an excellent result by our operation teams at Jaguar and Long, and by the AngloGold Ashanti operational team at Tropicana,” said Independence MD Peter Bradford.

First gold at Tropicana was achieved in September last year, and the project was ramped-up to nameplate capacity in March this year. For the first three years of operation, production was expected to average between 470 000 oz and 490 000 oz.
