JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The world's second-largest platinum producer Impala Platinum (Implats) chairperson Fred Roux has reportedly been removed from office.
Newswire Bloomberg News quoted Roux as saying in a statement distributed at the company's annual general meeting on Thursday that he had been "fired" as chairperson and that he had had a "strained, distant" relationship with CEO David Brown.
Roux joined the Implats board and was appointed chairperson in 2004.
In the 2009 financial year, the company produced 1,7-million ounces of platinum, which is about 25% of global supply, and 3,4-million ounces of platinum group metals.
