PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Joint Ore Reserves Committee-compliant resource at the Yangibana rare earths project, in Western Australia, has now increased to more than 20.5-million tonnes, ASX-listed Hastings Technology Metals reported.

The new resource estimate includes recent drilling results at two new targets, and included the first measured resource at Yangibana North.

Hastings noted that these resources presented a further significant increase in contained tonnes of rare earth oxides from 216 000 t in the July estimate to 243 000 t, and in contained tonnes from 68 900 t to 84 240 t.

A previously completed prefeasibility study into the Yangibana project, in Western Australia, forecast that the mine could produce some one-million tonnes a year of ore, starting in 2019, with a mine life of seven years.

The project is expected to require a capital investment of between A$390-million and A$420-million.
