JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Harmony Gold expected to resume work at its Evander No 8 shaft on Friday morning, spokesperson Marian van der Walt said on Thursday.
She confirmed that, following a fatality at the shaft on Wednesday morning, the Department of Mineral Resources had issued a Section 54 notice for the area where the incident had occurred.
A worker was killed in a rockfall at about 05:00 at a working area 2 125 m below surface.
The management of the mine had stopped all operations at the shaft while working to ensure that it was safe for workers to return, which was anticipated to be Friday.
Van der Walt noted that the mine had lost about 18 kg of production over the two days.
