JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Gulf Manganese has appointed Andrew Wilson to its board as a nonexecutive director with immediate effect.

Wilson served as president director of BHP Billiton Indonesia between 2000 and 2007 and was also a director of the Indonesian Mining Association. He was based in Jakarta, had strong connections in the region and spoke the local language fluently.

“Wilson brings with him a wealth of experience with operation in Indonesia, which will be a significant value-add as the board and management team continue to derisk and drive forward the development of our Indonesian manganese smelting project,” Gulf Manganese chairperson Craig Munro commented.

He added that Williams would add significant depth to the company’s board in the areas of corporate governance and risk management.

Further, Gulf Manganese reported that Peter Williams had resigned from the board as a nonexecutive director.

Gulf Manganese is developing a manganese alloy smelter business in Indonesia through its wholly owned subsidiary International Manganese’s 98% shareholding in PT Gulf Mangan Group.
