Decades after the great Nelson Mandela used the struggle phrase aluta continua as a rallying cry for political freedom, his grandson Zondwa Mandela is continuing with a struggle of sorts on the economic front. His ambition is to be a force in gold-mining. The company he heads, Aurora Empowerment Systems, has bought a series of gold mines, from Orkney to Springs, with AM Equity, of Malaysia, seemingly, financially backing every strategic step that Aurora takes. The ultimate aim of the offspring of South Africa's struggle veterans of yesteryear - Aurora's chairperson is Khulubuse Zuma, nephew of President Jacob Zuma - is to make a mark in gold in the big, but underexplored, continent of Africa.
