JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Underground operations at the No. 4 shaft of gold producer Gold Field’s Kloof mine, in Gauteng, resumed operations in the early hours of Friday morning.

Operations at the shaft were suspended on Wednesday, after an underground fatality was reported. The Department of Minerals and Energy had visited the site on Thursday morning, and had been presented with the results from the internal investigation into the accident.

On the advice of the inspector, certain operational aspects had been reviewed and implemented, after which the shaft had been reopened, spokesperson Julian Gwillim said.

Gwillim said that between 50 kg and 60 kg of gold production was lost during the two days, however, the company aimed to recoup the losses as quickly as possible.
