Gemfields to report lower interim profit

JSE- and BSX-listed Gemfields expects to report a net profit of $12.4-million for the six months ended June 30, compared with the net profit of $16-million achieved in the six months ended June 30, 2018.

Earnings a share and headline earnings a share for the six months under review are expected to be $0.01, in line with that reported for the prior comparable period.

Gemfields' Montepuez Ruby Mining, in Mozambique, generated $50-million of revenue in the six months to June 30, compared with the $71.8-million generated in the prior comparable period.

Its Kagem emerald mine, in Zambia, generated $33.2-million of revenue in the period under review, compared with the $21-million generated in the prior comparable period.

Gemfields plans to release its interim results on September 20.
