After a decade in operation the 100% black-owned mineral processing and dust extraction company, MIP Process Technologies (Pty) Ltd, continues to make its mark on the industry despite the challenges facing the mining and related industries.

Year on year the company has improved its bottom line with a steady growth programme, which can only be attributed to hard work as well as continual research and development of its offering to the market.

A large installed base of equipment throughout the world bears testament to the company’s ability to serve the industry timeously with competitive and superior products. Their international market is serviced via a network of agents working closely with the company’s offices in South Africa and North America.

MIP’s equipment can be seen in Australia, Burkina Faso, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Mexico, Mozambique, North America, Turkey, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The product range includes the following:

  • Attrition scrubbers
  • Agitators
  • Bag Filters
  • Clarifiers
  • Dry dust cyclones
  • Flocculant plants
  • Horizontal linear screens
  • Reagent plants
  • Slurry samplers
  • Thickeners
  • Wet scrubbers for gas cleaning applications

Thickeners

MIP supplies some of the largest and most versatile thickeners available on the market. Their success is due to the ability to ‘listen to and hear’ its client’s needs and work according to customer specification.

During the last year MIP Process has supplied six (6) thickeners to a large PGM producer in South Africa.

However, the flagship project has to be the conversion of a half-span thickener bridge to one (1) with a full span 47m long unit for a platinum producer in the Rustenburg area.  The centre column of the concrete tank was disintegrating, and MIP Process offered a cost effective solution by replacing the drive and bridge with minimum impact to current operations.

Three (3) thickeners for a new Fluorspar project as well as a thirty-four (34)m diameter unit for an Australian customer was completed in 2017.

The company also supplies thickeners with a skid mounted leg design.  This minimises civil plinth costs and offers easy relocation, which is worthwhile in coal and diamond applications where modular plants are used.

During 2011 the company manufactured and installed the largest bolted thickener in the world (at the time) for a diamond application.

The bolted design thickener is highly beneficial as savings are immense essentially due to much shorter on site erection times, no welding is required as a special sealer seals the bolted sections. Delivery time is minimised overall as while the civil work is being prepared on site, the equipment is being manufactured and typically can save up to eight weeks.

Sizes range from 10mØ to 45mØ, and to date installations are processing chrome, coal, diamond, gold, iron ore as well as platinum tailings and concentrate.

Linear Screens, Attrition Scrubbers, Flocculant Plants and Samplers.

The company has designed and manufactured some the largest Linear Screens available on the global market making it one of their most successful export ventures. Countries using MIP’s screens are Australia, Canada, Mali, Zambia and the DRC.

Attrition Scrubbers, Flocculant Make-up plants, Reagent Dosing plants are also of modular design or supplied as customised equipment.

Reliable slurry samplers have also proven their worth on the international market as well as locally.

MIP Process continues to add new products to its range. The newest of these will be launched at Electra Mining 2018.

Dust Extraction

Four years ago MIP expanded its business to included dust extraction in its offering.

The requirements for removing particulates from the atmosphere have become very much more rigid in recent years. As much as seven million people die annually due to air pollution and some of these areas are burning of coal and wood, industrial exhaust gasses, clay brick factories, open cast mining and vehicles.

MIP Process’s dust extraction range covers all aspects of pollution control ranging from cleaning toxic gasses to dust particles.

MIP can provide assistance and support to companies on the criteria on meeting the new regulations and if required, with a phased implementation approach.

MIP Process has supplied a repeat order for the capturing and cleaning of tap-hole gasses for a major Chrome producer.  A project for the supply of a gas and dust cleaning system is currently underway for a mining application in the North West province.

MIP Process is an empowered process equipment supplier with Level 1 (the highest) BEE accreditation.

In the words of Manging Director, Philip Hoff, “Despite the ups and downs of the mining industry over the past decade, MIP has stood its ground and grown from strength to strength through its offering of high quality, value for money and reliable equipment”.
