PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Iron-ore miner Fortescue Metals is reportedly looking to replicate its iron-ore success from the Pilbara, in Argentina.

Celebrating ten years of iron-ore exports from the Pilbara, Fortescue founder and chairperson Andrew Forrest said on Tuesday that the company was looking at early stage exploration projects in Argentina, Ecuador and Colombia.

He also flagged the opportunity to diversify into battery material opportunities, including copper, lithium, nickel and graphene.

Fortescue in the 2018 financial year will spend some $29-million on exploration, including on lithium exploration in the Pilbara. The company is also exploring its 32 granted concessions in Ecuador and had submitted 64 exploration concession applications in Columbia.
