TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Canadian diversified miner Teck Resources restarted operations on Monday night at its Greenhills coal mine, near Elkford, British Columbia, after a flash fire in the dryer complex injured three employees.

The incident took place at about 11:00 Mountain Time and Teck said the fire was quickly extinguished and all employees, visitors and contractors at the site were accounted for.

Spokesperson Chris Stannell told Mining Weekly Online that there was no significant damage to the operation as a result of the incident and it was not expected to impact the operation's expected full-year output.

Three employees had received non-life-threatening injuries.

"All three employees have now been released from hospital and one employee returned to work today. Our thoughts are certainly with them and their families and we hope they will all make a quick and full recovery," Stannell said in an email.

Teck explained that the cause of the incident was not known yet and an investigation to determine the cause of the incident was under way.

The company had notified the appropriate regulatory authorities that an investigation to determine the cause of the incident remained under way.
