Wernick Buildings has announced it has been awarded a contract to supply all permanent site buildings at the £130m tungsten mine near Plympton.

The order is worth approximately £800,000 and will involve the design and installation of three modular buildings and four standalone cabins. The cabins will house the control rooms for the heavy machinery used in the mining process, while the modular buildings will be used for laboratories, administration and amenities.

Bordering the Dartmoor National Park, the mine will be Britain’s first metal mine in over 40 years and promises to create over 200 jobs. The Australian owners, Wolf Minerals, seem committed to using local businesses wherever possible; the Wernick Buildings depot in charge of handling the contract is only minutes from the site. Other local companies have been commissioned to manufacture machinery and most of the workforce is expected to come from nearby Plymouth. Simon Reffell, Director of Wernick Buildings, commented “It’s fantastic to be supporting such a significant project, especially since Wolf Minerals seem to have chosen all of their suppliers very carefully. It’s also refreshing to see a company that immediately understands the benefits of a modular approach to building.”
