FICTION AND FIBS IN FOREIGN FIELDS:
Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane has been globetrotting again instead of talking to mining stakeholders at home. He got away with distorting the realities of his aberrant Mining Charter III at the LatAm Mining Cumbre, in Chile, but, thankfully, he was prevented from dishing out more fiction and fibs in foreign fields at the Africa Downunder conference, in Perth. As a rule, South Africans should do everything in their power to present a united front when putting the country’s investment case outside the country, but, in the case of the warped Mining Charter III aberration, right-thinking South Africans had no option but to tell it as it is. “This is too big to smooth over the cracks,” attendees were warned, which was the right context in which to frame the current activities of this country’s errant Department of Mineral Resources.
