TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Vancouver-based Farallon Mining is relooking at the scope of a mill expansion at its G-9 mine in Mexico, after achieving record throughput rates in the first quarter of this year, and setting a new daily record last week.
The operation is now operating consistently at over 1 900 t/d, and the mill achieved throughput of 2 527 wet metric tons on March 25, 68% over the design capacity of 1 500 t/d, Farallon said on Wednesday.
The company has also seen metallurgical recoveries improving, with zinc recovery of 84% and copper recovery of 68% this month, up to March 29.
Based on the strong throughput results, Farallon is considering whether the $5,3-million it has committed to the mill expansion project could be used to achieve greater capacity than the 2 000 t/d originally planned.
“It is extremely gratifying to see the G-9 operations running well above nameplate capacity only one year after announcing commercial production,” CEO Dick Whittington commented.
“It is also encouraging that metallurgical recovery is continuing to improve, despite the high throughput rates.”
Farallon achieved commercial production at its G-9 mine in April last year.
Shares in the company rose 3,39% on Wednesday, to C$0,61 apiece by 15:59 in Toronto.
