Electra Mining Africa to unveil new products and technologies

Taking place from 12-16 September at the Expo Centre in Johannesburg, Electra Mining Africa 2016 will be host to over 850 local and international exhibitors and unveiling many new products and technologies.

This is the place where Africa’s mining, industrial and power sectors will meet. As Southern Africa’s largest trade show and one of the world’s largest mining exhibitions, Electra Mining Africa will provide the local mining and related industries with a valuable platform for engagement, collaboration, interaction and networking.

“Many of our exhibitors will be launching new products at Electra Mining Africa and showcasing their latest innovations and technologies,” says Gary Corin, Managing Director of Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery, organisers of the show. “Live demonstrations, interactive displays, engagement with technical experts, together with conferences and free-to-attend seminars, create a highly informative environment for visitors from across mining, industrial, electrical, power and related industries.”

JA Engineering will be launching their first ever designed and manufactured Continuous Miner at this year’s show. As a truly South African company introducing its innovative technology in design and manufacture at the show, the official Ribbon Cut Ceremony will be taking place on Monday 12 September, the opening day of Electra Mining Africa, at 11am. The Department of Trade and Industry has confirmed its attendance to this event.

SEW-Eurodrive is celebrating its 85th anniversary and will be unveiling a range of new products at this year’s Electra Mining Africa. These include the new energy efficient IE3 DRN asynchronous motors, the new X-Series agitator and its Movitrac LTP-B Eco HVAC unit for mining, industrial and commercial applications.

Another company exhibiting at Electra Mining Africa is fire suppression specialists, Failsafe Fire Projects, who will be launching its newly developed electronic fire panel, integrated with a remote monitoring GPS system. This new system will allow Failsafe Fire Project’s head-office to remotely monitor its customer’s fire suppression systems and receive information on any potential fire incidents immediately. This information will help to reduce machine down-time and maximise machine productivity.

Worldwide leaders in automation SMC Pneumatics will be exhibiting for the first time at Electra Mining Africa, showcasing a wide array of fully-functional demo units and its expert team.

Manufacturer of energy efficient luminaires, BEKA Schréder, will be launching its new Roughguard LED industrial luminaire into the local market. Designed to be used in industrial corrosive and harsh environments and the vandal proof polycarbonate diffuser is secured to the body by six stainless steel Allen head tamper proof screws.

The Continental ContiTech division will launch its brand new Conti Ultimate technical rubber product with wear indication technology. Leading industry experts will be on the stand to discuss technical rubber products and plastics technology.

Verder Pumps will be launching the next generation Peristaltic Case Pump, the Verderflex Vantage 5000 which delivers precision dosing with advanced touch screen technology and internal memory that stores up to 30 dosing and batching programmes.

Voith Turbo will be launching its Hese and the Conveyor Belt Smart Motion Monitor. Whilst RKF Assemblies are excited to show you its latest edition of Rugby branded braai brushes. Also on display will be the company’s road sweepers, floor care and other industrial brushes. Industrilas AB will be presenting the new generation of extra flush handles for gensets, trucks and machines on their stand at Electra Mining Africa.

More firsts for South Africa

Launching first in South Africa at Electra Mining Africa, ABB will be introducing the Dodge Raptor coupling, featuring patented WingLockTM technology, finite-element optimized winged elastomeric design providing longer driven equipment life and increased reliability.

Derrick Solutions International Africa of South Africa will showcase their popular 5-deck Stack Sizer technology. Representatives from their USA manufacturers will be on their stand to interact with visitors about the latest technology.

I-CAT Environmental Solutions will unveil a range of new products which include the Retractable Stockpile Dust Ring, the Waste Water Evaporation Cannon and the Roto-Fire-Pac Backpack Fast Response System.

Demag’s newly-launched V-Type crane girder will take centre stage at Electra Mining Africa, where the crane technology leader will display its full product range. Launched in Sub-Saharan Africa in March this year following its successful debut in Europe and North America, the new V-Type crane girder will be available at highly-discounted prices to exhibition visitors.

Beckhoff Automation will be launching various new technologies, with live demonstrations of the eXtended Transport System (XTS) combining the advantages of two drive principles (rotary & linear motion) in a single system. Also available will be the Industrie 4.0 (TwinCAT loT and TwinCAT Analytics) and EtherCAT P One Cable Automation.

A visit to the Hi-Force Hydraulics stand at Electra Mining Africa will enable visitors to see the new Hi-Force ToughLift Jacking Systems incorporating a 3-speed pump unit for increased output, improved valve manifold design, a redesigned base plate, and offering enhanced manoeuvrability.

ViRDI and iMAT will be launching their new collaborative product catering specifically to the mining industry. The Minestyle - a flat pack turnstile incorporated with a breathalyser, will provide a high degree of security and an effective means of access control. 

Manitou Southern Africa and dealership representatives from its 14 dealerships across the country will be sharing detailed information on latest innovations, aftermarket service, and the latest mining machine and attachment innovations.

Showcasing award winning technology

Kal Tire will showcase its award-winning technology – the Ultra Repair tyre patch for earthmoving tyres with large injuries. The Ultra Repair patch restores the tyre's original strength, integrity and performance at a fraction of the cost of new tyres.

Metso will be featuring its newly developed Poly-cer wear products and Trellex 305PS modular screening media systems with the focus on reducing costs and downtime.  Innovative truck bed lining is also being showcased for the first time. The liner offers longevity, reduces vehicle stress and assists with the safety of the driver.

Rapid Armor will be introducing a revolutionary liner system that would change the way maintenance is done on liner systems in mining plants, providing an improved life cycle that increases the plant operation and revenues.

Electra Mining Africa will also see the official launch of global cutting tool group TDC's Cleveland product brand in South Africa, focusing on industrial grade drills.

Rapid 3D will be showcasing Direct Metal Printing (DMP) technology which is used for rapid prototyping, functional prototyping, bridge tooling and production manufacturing. DMP samples will be available at their stand.

Technology specialists

Rhine Ruhr Pumps & Valves will be hosting their partners from Germany and visitors will be able to meet them on their stand and learn about the latest technologies.

Dust-A-Side will have specialists on their stand to discuss dust suppression requirements, including dust and road management for opencast and underground mines.

Conferences and Seminars

For the first time ever, Electra Mining Africa will offer daily free-to-attend seminars.  These will be held in association with South African Institute of Mechanical Engineers (SAIMechE). The seminars will provide an excellent learning platform with industry specialists sharing their knowledge and expertise. See the full schedule at www.electramining.co.za

The South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (SAIMM) is hosting two days of high impact forums with top industry keynote speakers, panel discussions, case studies and networking opportunities on 12 & 13 September. Register to attend one or all three forums at a cost of R450.00 per forum.

Women in Mining South Africa (WiMSA) will be hosting a free half-day workshop at Electra Mining Africa focused on development and innovation within the mining industry on 14 September 2016.


The LEEASA Lifting Conference will take place 14 & 15 September alongside Electra Mining Africa covering topics such as OHS Act, Mine Health and Safety Act, SANS Standards, NCOP, and DMR 18.

Discussions around the latest infrastructure projects, insights into the commodity market, exploration hot spots, investment opportunities, project financing, next generation mining and the future of sustainable mining will take place at the SADC Electra Mining Conference on 15 September.

The Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be holding a morning seminar on 15 September discussing the topic of “bilateral partnerships – a solution to meet local content requirements in the mining industry.”
