Visitors can expect to see many leading-edge South African companies in the packed halls, marquees and outside precincts at Electra Mining Africa this year, which takes place from 15-19 September at the Expo Centre, Nasrec in Johannesburg. There will also be high-profile international exhibitors from countries such as Australia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Korea, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, UAE, United Kingdom and USA. Chinese and Turkish pavilions are confirmed, as well as the Canadian Association of Mining Equipment and Services for Export pavilion.

“We are expecting high attendance at the 2014 show and believe that it will be a successful and enjoyable event for all participants,” says Gary Corin, Managing Director, Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery, organisers of the show. “Our exhibitors work extremely hard and put in considerable effort to make the show a success and this year will be no different. Visitors can engage with over 850 exhibitors across 38,000m² of exhibition space.”

Electra Mining Africa showcases a vast array of new innovations, products, services, technologies, trends and industry developments in the mining, industrial, electrical and machines tools industries which put South Africa’s capabilities very much in the spotlight. “The visitor experience at Electra Mining Africa is like no other trade show on the continent,” says Corin. “We are active in three other African countries with the Electra Mining Africa brand, but the Johannesburg show remains the flagship event and we have ensured that it embraces all five senses and it boasts world-class outdoor and indoor exhibits.”

Engaging the senses of sight, sound, smell, taste and touch is a growing trend across exhibitions and enables visitors to fully experience what the show has to offer. Even with trade shows such as Electra Mining Africa, the use of simulation booths, live demonstrations, on-site entertainment and fun-activities are effectively being used. These additions support the “High Tech High Touch” need of visitors. Technology has taken us into a new world of marketing with many advantages, especially digital media, but when concluding sales in the B2B environment “face-to-face” is still preferred.

“With a collective value of millions of Rands in products and equipment on display, live demonstrations and technical experts available on stands, there is no doubt that Electra Mining Africa will provide our local and international visitors with a valuable experience,” says Corin. Hall 9 is where visitors can locate the Machine Tools showcase and where Harp Machine Tools will be exhibiting. Harp Machine Tools sources and supplies machinery world-wide, and has served the Engineering Industries of Africa, America, Europe and the United Kingdom for over 30 years. Electra Mining Africa 2014 will see the launch of Harp Machine Tools new range of machines from SMTCL. Highlighting CNC machines will be the Brio Mill 850 which is a very affordable vertical machining centre with 850mm travel on the X axis. Also on show will be a model CAK CNC flat bed lathe and a CNC vertical machining centre 1100mm. SMTCL management will be on the exhibition to deal with any questions regarding their machinery.

On conventional machines there will be a range of centre lathes from 360mm x 1000mm up to 800mm x 3000mm, a Z3050 x 16/1 Radial drill and a TPX6111B/3 110mm spindle horizontal boring mill. Also on show will be a Wuhu CNC Vertical Boring Mill model: CK5116. Several of these machines are already in operation in South Africa and have proven to be of exceptional quality. Conferences taking place alongside Electra Mining Africa 2014 include a Surface Mining and Naturally Metallurgy Conference hosted by the Southern African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, the International Infrastructure & Invest Convention, the Powering African Industry Conference and the Women in Mining Workshop hosted by WIMSA. In addition, the South African Institute of Mechanical Engineers will be hosting an exhibitor product showcase at the MAN Building throughout the show. Go to www.electramining.co.za for more information on these conferences.

Electra Mining Africa is organised by Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery, a member of the prestigious Montgomery Group and a member of the Exhibition Association of Southern Africa. Electra Mining has accreditation from UFI, which is the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. This means that the event is audited according to strict standards.
