JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – China-headquartered Shandong Electric Power Construction No 2 Company (Sepco2) has gained greater insight into the workings of Aim-listed Edenville Energy’s coal-to-power project in south-western Tanzania following the conclusion of the first in a series of in-country meetings.

The Tanzania-focused coal-based energy group on Wednesday said that following meetings in China earlier this year, Edenville was a step closer to securing a project partner for its Rukwa coal-to-power project, as it showcased the logistics and costs associated with a Tanzanian project to visiting senior representatives of Sepco2 through “productive” meetings in Dar es Salaam last week.

"The meetings in Tanzania have given Sepco2 a detailed understanding of the costs along with the technical and regulatory parameters associated with the … project,” said Edenville CEO Rufus Short.

In addition, Edenville gained insight into the operations of Sepco2, with Short noting that the company was “very encouraged” by the Chinese firm’s knowledge and experience in developing coal-fired power plants.

“Both parties will continue discussions in the coming weeks under a defined framework for advancement of the Rukwa coal project in the context of Tanzania's requirement for coal-based power generation,” he concluded.
