Dominion Diamond CEO quits
VANCOUVER (miningweekly.com) – The CEO of the world’s third-largest diamond producer Dominion Diamond Corporation, Brendan Bell, has resigned, saying the corporate relocation from Yellowknife, in the Northwest Territories, to Calgary, Alberta, “is not the right move for my family”.
The TSX- and NYSE-listed miner has engaged recruitment agency Korn Ferry to assist with the process of identifying potential candidates to assume the role of CEO once Bell leaves on June 30.
Dominion said in November the move to relocate its head office was expected to save C$19-million a year once fully implemented.
The relocation is expected to be completed by mid-year 2017, without interruption to ongoing operations at the flagship Ekati mine and the development of the Jay pipe project. The miner also owns 40% of the nearby Diavik diamond mine.
Despite the relocation resulting in about 100 jobs lost in the Northwest Territories, Dominion stated, at the time, that most of the workforce, including most its northern Aboriginal employees, would continue to be employed in the Northwest Territories and it would maintain an office in Yellowknife for certain key positions.
