TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Canadian project developer Detour Gold has poured the first gold bars at its flagship Detour Lake mine, in Ontario.

The company on Monday said it poured the first four gold bars for about 2 000 oz of gold.

“Our first gold pour is a remarkable milestone in Detour Gold’s transition from a young exploration company to a gold producer,” president and CEO Gerald Panneton said.

He added that the company was excited about what it had accomplished in six years from acquiring the property, to the first gold pour.

The company during September updated the production plan and estimated the openpit operation to hold a 15.6-million-ounce probable and proven gold reserve, contained within 470-million tons of ore grading 1.03 g/t, which was 700 000 oz more than previously expected.

The company’s TSX-listed stock traded at C$20.70 apiece on Tuesday.
