PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Energy giant Shell has awarded a A$25-million contract to ASX-listed design, engineering and construction firm DGL Group to construct a major support facility for the proposed Prelude project, in the Northern Territory.

The company has been engaged as the principal contractor for the construction of the Darwin onshore supply base to support the floating Prelude liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility.

Decmil would have the responsibility of designing and constructing the facility, including detailed engineering, contracting, procurement, fabrication, transportation and all statutory and regulatory approvals.

The new base is being developed to provide onshore support for the Prelude LNG facility, which was expected to deliver some 110 000 barrels of oil equivalent a day, underpinning a 5.3-million-ton-a-year liquids operation consisting of 3.6-million tons of LNG, 1.3-million tons of condensate and 400 000 t of liquefied petroleum gas.

As the main logistics support base for the Prelude project, the base would include a range of facilities, such as an administration building, a climate-controlled warehouse, storage yards, hard stands, a wash down pad, roads and car parks.

Design and construction was expected to take some 12 months, and construction would start in July this year.
