Project Description
The project will see the development of a commercial operation to produce one-million tons a year of a standard chloride of potash product over an initial estimated operating life of 30 years, using solution mining, solar evaporation and standard flotation. Solar evaporation of the saturated brine solution is possible at Danakil, owing to the year-round hot temperatures averaging 40 °C and very little rainfall.

Capital expenditure including production, port and other infrastructure is estimated at $796-million.

Feasibility study work on the project is ongoing and on schedule for completion in the third quarter of 2012.

Production increase to more than one-million tons will be evaluated in the study.
