Construction company Scribante Construction, which has been diversifying from its traditional civil engineering focus with a growing portfolio of mining contracts, has acquired a new range of earthmoving equipment, including 90-t-payload Caterpillar (Cat) 777 rigid trucks, a fleet of Cat D10T and D11T dozers and Cat 992K wheel loaders, during the first half of 2011.
The company plans to continue its multimillion-rand fleet modernisation programme through- out the next financial year with many more equipment acquisitions, in line with Scribante’s increasing growth in the mining sector.
“The company is undertaking several projects in Rustenburg, in the North West, and Middelburg, in Mpumalanga, and is targeting a number of potential projects throughout South Africa, includ- ing the Northern Cape,” says Scribante CEO Franco Scribante.
He adds the coal sector is particularly active, with Scribante securing a significant project at a coal mine in Middelburg, where one of the new 105 t Cat 992Ks is being deployed to handle substantial output volumes.
“Scribante’s ongoing fleet modernisation programme will continue to support current and future business expansion and, over the next five years, it is expected that about 90% of the company’s work will be in the mining sector,” Scribante concludes.
