Diamond miner Rio Tinto showed off coloured diamonds from Australia to 100 gem enthusiasts in Hong Kong this month. The company’s diamond CEO, Alan Davies, seen holding an Argyle pink, expects Rio Tinto’s share of global diamond production to rise to 18% in 2017, from 11% now. Of the 64 diamonds shown, 58 were pink, three blue and three red. Their combined weight was 54.99 ct. The Argyle mine’s pinks fetch 20 times more than white equivalents. Rio cuts and polishes stones in Perth for sale by exclusive tender.
