PERTH (miningweekly.com) - ASX-listed project house Clough has been awarded a A$350-million contract by oil and gas major Chevron at its A$29-billion Wheatstone liquefied natural gas (LNG) project, in Western Australia.
The offshore hook-up and commissioning component of the contract would be provided over a 40-month period.
Clough said on Thursday that the agreed scope of work included the provision of labour, materials and an accommodation support vessel to assist Chevron with precommissioning, commissioning of integrated float over deck systems, offshore hook-ups and start-up assistance.
At peak, Clough would employ some 300 people at the project.
The Wheatstone processing platform would be one of Australia’s largest offshore facilities with a topsides weight of around 37 000 t. The topsides would be transported to the offshore installation site on a barge, and would be installed onto the substructure using a float over procedure.
Wheatstone, which would deliver its first LNG by 2016, includes the development of offshore gas fields, a 225 km pipeline, port facilities and an initial two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 8.9-million tons a year.
