CHINESE FDI IN AFRICA – The attraction of Southern African resources to the Chinese is growing, particularly against the background of unfriendly foreign investment laws in countries like Australia, coupled to pronouncements by politicians that continue to unsettle prospective Chinese investments. Points made at the Terrapin Africa Mining 2011 conference in Johannesburg is that the overall trend is the deployment of increasing volumes of Chinese capital into the resources sector and the consensus is that Africa is proving a key destination.
