Mining Investment Asia, South East Asia’s largest mining conference and exhibition connecting miners, investors and service providers recognises the important role of women in the mining industry, especially here in Asia. Hence a full day, entitled ‘Women in Mining Day’, will be set aside once again on 26 March to promote the value women bring to the mining industry, celebrate their successes and highlight challenges to overcome.

Keynote Address and Speaker for ‘Women in Mining Day’
The central theme for this year’s ‘Women in Mining Day’ will be on leadership and human capital management. As with any industry, pertinent issues like how to identify the right talent, strategies to empower and retain them are key to the success of mining companies.

As the traditionally male dominated mining industry seeks to embrace greater gender diversity, our keynote address will be “How changing global megatrends affect women in leadership in the mining sector”.

Our keynote speaker will be Ms Zayaan Kahn, Founder & Vice President of Women in Mining & Resources (WIMAR) Singapore. She is also the Marketing Strategy Manager at Rio Tinto, Singapore and leads the marketing intelligence function for its copper and coal division.

She has more than 10 years’ experience across mining and public policy areas focussing on data analysis and strategy development. With her extensive industry experience within the mining sector and her pioneering role in establishing the first Women in Mining organisation in Singapore, she is certainly well placed to share her insights on women in leadership in mining.

Other topics and speakers at ‘Women in Mining Day’
Compared to developed regions such as North America and Australia, gender diversity is still gradually just gaining awareness in the Asian mining industry. Hence our panel of speakers from the South East Asia region will share their insights on topics such as gender equality in Asia, socio-economic changes for women in artisanal mining and how to create a healthy workplace culture for both genders.

In addition, our speakers will also share their insights on the mining industry based on their own area of expertise e.g. in supply chain management, stakeholder engagement etc.

Our current line-up of speakers for ‘Women in Mining Day’ 2019 include:
• Ms Kajal Modha, Supply Chain Specialist, South32, Singapore
• Ms Charmaine Olea-Capili, Executive Director, Philippine Nickel Industry Association
• Ms Tiur Henny Monica, Head of Legal, Blackspace, Indonesia

Over the past few years, various speakers from the region have attended and shared their experiences, both on a personal and corporate level, at our Women in Mining Day.

Our past line-up of speakers include:
• Ms Patricia Bunye, Founding President, DIWATA – Women in Resources Philippines
• Dr Gaomai Trench, Assistant Director, Department of Mines and Petroleum, Western Australia
• Ms Yvonne Tan, HR Business Partner, BHP Billiton, Singapore
• Ms Jade Devenish, Managing Director, Geomysore, India
• Mr Tim Duffy, President Director, Agincourt Resources, Indonesia
• Ms Peni Susanti, Executive Director, Provincial Energy and Mining Association of Indonesia

Spaces are still available for sponsors, exhibitors and delegates who wish to be a part of Women in Mining Day and Mining Investment Asia. Delegates can enjoy discounts of up to $200 with the early bird pricing before 11 March.

Enquiries can be sent to Vishal via email at vishal.sengupta@spire-events.com or phone at +65 6717 6019. More information can be found at the event website.
