JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Talks between the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) and the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) were set to take place on Friday.

Following the breakdown of talks between AMCU and platinum producers Anglo American Platinum, Impala Platinum and Lonmin, the CCMA moved to engage the parties individually in an effort to seek a resolution.

“As part of the mediation process, the mediators met with the platinum employers today and are scheduled to meet with AMCU tomorrow at 11:00 at the CCMA national office,” CCMA director Nerine Kahn said in a statement.

“While the mediation process appears to be proceeding gradually, the pace of such processes cannot be hurried if one wishes to achieve progressive social dialogue and lasting solutions.”
