JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Canadian explorer Pacific Bay Minerals has opened an office in Nambia’s capital, Windhoek, to support its goal of exploring for uranium in that country.
The TSX Venture Exchange-listed company said on Monday that it had established a Namibian subsidiary, PBM Explorations, retained a country manager and held discussions with a number of parties on possible acquisitions.
A company delegation travelled to Namibia in the second quarter to visit a number of identified uranium opportunities.
"Namibia has been a uranium powerhouse for decades, but recent world-class discoveries have made Namibia the premier destination worldwide for uranium explorers," said Pacific Bay CEO David Brett.
Namibia hosts the world’s third-largest uranium mine, Rossing, as well as the Langer Heinrich mine. Trekkopje will be the country’s third uranium producing mine.
