TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – The Mining Association of Canada (MAC) has elected Cameco’s senior VP and COO of global uranium supply, Robert (Bob) Steane, its new chairperson for a two-year term.

The association announced on Thursday that, effective immediately, Steane would replace Shell Canada VP of oil sands operations Zoë Yujnovich, who served as chairperson from June 2013.

Steane had been an active member of the MAC for many years, holding several leadership positions. He had served on the board and executive committee since 2012, most recently in the position of first vice-chairperson.

He currently held a BSc in metallurgical engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and a diploma of technology in chemical and metallurgical technology from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
