JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Canadian uranium giant Cameco Corporation has opened an office in India, and appointed Dr Chaitanyamoy Ganguly president.
“The establishment of our office in India and appointment of Ganguly, who is well-known in India's nuclear community, demonstrate our intention to develop this emerging nuclear market,” said Cameco president and CEO Jerry Grandey.
“We are confident that Ganguly’s knowledge, experience and leadership, combined with our ability to provide customers with a secure, reliable uranium supply will help us gain a solid footing in this promising market.”
Ganguly, who has held senior executive positions with International Atomic Energy Agency and the Government of India's Department of Atomic Energy, would lead Cameco’s business activities in India, advise the company on developments and opportunities in the country's fuel markets, and represent Cameco in its dealings with the Indian government.
Ganguly begins his new role with Cameco on October 1, and will work out of the company's new office in Hyderabad.
Cameco, with its head office in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, is the world's largest uranium miner.
