JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Central African Gold (CAG) has resumed operations at two of its mines in Zimbabwe, which had previously been on care and maintenance.
The company reported on Friday that operations at the Old Nic and Dalny mines had resumed early in August, with the mines having already produced a combined 234 oz of gold.
The Old Nic mine, which was held by CAG's 100% owned Olympus Mines subsidiary, produced 110 oz of gold since August 2.
A further 124 oz of gold had been produced at the Dalny mine, which was held by CAG's 84,7% controlled subsidiary Falcon Gold Zimbabwe.
Up to 2006, the Dalny mine had produced a total of 2,44-million ounces of gold.
CAG stated that the property was underexplored and that there was an opportunity to develop a number of openpit, medium-grade bulk mining operations within the Dalny shear zone.
The company also held an interest in the Golden Quarry and Camperdown mines, in Zimbabwe.
