TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – The production hoist at TSX-listed Breakwater Resources' Myra Falls mine, in British Columbia, has been returned to service after a fire earlier this month, the company reported on Monday.
However, the firm said later in the day that the underground workings at Myra Falls had been evacuated, after "excessive rain and snow melt had created a considerable amount of water runoff".
Required personnel will remain on site to manage the situation and the company will provide updates "as appropriate", Breakwater said.
The mine has had its share of difficulties this month already, after an electrical switch gear that controls the hoist was damaged in a fire.
The switch gear has since been replaced, and the hoist restarted operations on Sunday.
Last week, the company also averted a potential labour interruption at Myra Falls, after hourly employees voted to ratify a tentative labour agreement reached with management.
Besides Myra Falls, Breakwater also produces zinc and copper concentrate from the El Mochito mine in Honduras and the El Toqui mine in Chile.
Its Langlois mine in Quebec is on temporary care-and-maintenance.
