TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – TSX-listed Breakwater Resources restarted the mill at its Myra Falls mine, in British Columbia, on Wednesday morning, the company reported later in the day.
The firm evacuated the the underground workings at Myra Falls on Monday after high levels of rain and snow melt created a significant water runoff.
Although production employees returned underground on Tuesday, the mine site is still getting a lot of snowfall, which requires careful ongoing monitoring and management, the company said.
“As always the safety of our employees is our paramount concern and production decisions will be made on a day-to-day basis until the high levels of precipitation abate.”
The Myra Falls operation only started up again on Sunday this week, after an electrical switch gear that controls the hoist was damaged in a fire earlier this month.
Last week, the company also averted a potential labour interruption at Myra Falls, when hourly employees voted to ratify a tentative labour agreement reached with management.
Besides Myra Falls, Breakwater also produces zinc and copper concentrate from the El Mochito mine in Honduras and the El Toqui mine in Chile.
Its Langlois mine in Quebec is on temporary care-and-maintenance.
