JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – AIM- and JSE-listed Braemore Resources reported on Thursday that its ConRoast smelting facility, which is situated at Mintek in Johannesburg, would be restarted on Friday.

The company stated that all repairs to the smelter had been concluded after a brief shut-down period, following an operational incident in March.

The incident had been caused when water from a water leak came into contact with molten material, which vapourised the water, causing a series of minor explosions.

Extensive testing has been carried out during the closure period, which also provided Braemore with an opportunity to complete normal operational maintenance work required by the furnace.

Braemore said that the investigation into the incident had raised no further concerns and the company anticipated a steady powering up towards full production.
