Botswana appoints new Diamond Trading Company chair

JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Gabaake G Gabaake has been appointed as the chairperson of Botswana's Diamond Trading Company, succeeding Varda Shine, who served as chairperson since 2007.

Gabaake is currently the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Diamond Trading Company Botswana said in a statement.

He started his career in 1986 in the Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources as an assistant hydrogeologist in the Department of Geological Survey. He has held various senior positions, including director of Water Affairs; deputy permanent secretary responsible for transport in the Ministry of Works and Transport; permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government.

He holds a BSc in Geology from the University of Botswana and an MSc in Groundwater Hydrology from the University College of London.
