PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Repatriation efforts were currently under way after the remains of passengers on the fateful Sundance Resources charter flight were recovered over the weekend.
The bodies were recovered from the crash site six days after the chartered plane, carrying the iron-ore explorer’s entire board, was reported missing.
On board were chairperson Geoff Wedlock, MD and CEO Don Lewis, company secretary John Car-Gregg, and nonexecutive directors Ken Talbot, John Jones and Craig Oliver, as well as four other people, including the two pilots.
Sundance said on Monday that the Congolese Prime Minister, along with seven senior Congolese Ministers and the Australian High Commissioner were on hand to pay their respects when the bodies arrived in Brazzaville.
The company was now working with the Australian police, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, as well as the Congolese authorities to ensure that the repatriation process was done in a timely manner.
“Upon the completion of all necessary procedures in Brazzaville, including formal identification, a specialist repatriation team will continue to work towards repatriation,” the company said.
