TSX-listed Leagold Mining reported two fatalities at its Fazenda mine, in Brazil, over the weekend.

Five employees, two of whom suffered fatal injuries, were involved in an underground blasting accident that occurred on the evening of February 28.

The remaining three employees incurred minor injuries and have been released from hospital, the company said in a statement issued on March 3.

CEO Neil Woodyer said that Leagold was working with the authorities to fully understand the cause of the accident and confirmed that a investigation was under way.

Normal mining operations have resumed with the exception of the section of the underground mine where the accident occurred.
