Established in 1954, Bell Equipment is a proudly South African company, which this year celebrates 60 years in the design, manufacture, distribution and support of materials handling equipment.

With 75% of what the company sells in South Africa manufactured in-country, Bell is focused on increasing the local content of its products. Currently, its proprietary articulated dump trucks (ADTs) are produced using more than 70% local content. The company has also invested substantially in a Johannesburg-based global logistics centre to ensure that it is well positioned to support mining, construction, infrastructure development and agricultural activity across Africa.

Bell is a global leader in terms of ADT technology and innovation and regards its own ADT range as its core product. Bell currently has the largest range of ADTs on the market, led by the flagship B50, the world’s first and only production 50 tonner.

The company has also strengthened its position as a Southern African equipment supplier through strategic dealerships with key global manufacturing leaders such as John Deere, Bomag, Liebherr and Finlay.

This has enabled Bell to supply a diverse range of equipment to African countries, including wheel loaders, rigid and articulated haulers, excavators, motor graders, dozers, tractor loader backhoes, tri-wheeler rough-terrain materials handling equipment, a complete range of compaction machinery, and a material processing product line.

Bell saw a turnover of R6.3-billion in the 2013 financial year, with R957-million in fixed assets. The company is also SABS ISO 9001-accredited and has a staff complement of 3 500 worldwide.

Bell Equipment Company South Africa’s 53 000m² manufacturing plant and head office are situated in Alton, Richards Bay, while the 14 700m² Bell Equipment Sales South Africa head office is located in Jet Park, Gauteng. Bell also has a 9 500m² factory in Eisenach, Germany, along with an extensive network of customer service centres and dealers worldwide.
