TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Barrick Gold, the biggest producer of the yellow metal, appointed Gary Halverson as president of its North American business, with Mike Feehan replacing him in his previous role as head of the company’s Australia Pacific unit.
The move comes as NovaGold Resources announced Halverson’s predecessor Greg Lang will be taking over as CEO, as part of a corporate reshuffle that will see it spin off its copper assets.
Speculation has emerged that Barrick is readying to buy NovaGold, with which it has a joint venture at the massive Donlin Gold deposit in Alaska.
Halverson had previously served as the general manager at Barrick’s Cortez mine in Nevada, the company said, while Feehan had been the manager of its Goldstrike mine.
